On the evening of December 6 the lights went on for this year’s Sendai Pageant of Starlight. During this winter festival in the capital of Miyagi Prefecture, the zelkova trees lining Jōzenji-dōri avenue are decked with some 600,000 brilliant orange lights, and when they were switched on at the start of the pageant, the assembled crowd cheered.
This event will continue through the end of December.
