Associate professor at Ochanomizu University, where she teaches contemporary Japanese literature. Researches the connection between literature and art—particularly in the works of Kawabata Yasunari—and Tawada Yōko and other writers whose work crosses linguistic borders. Contributed to volumes 3 and 4 of Kawabata bungaku no sekai(The World of Kawabata Yasunari’s Literature) and Kawabata Yasunari sakuhin kenkyūshi shūsei (Compiled History of Research on Works by Yasunari Kawabata). Coedited Tawada Yōko no engeki o yomu (Reading Tawada Yōko’s Dramatic Works).
