Takahashi Satoshi

Professor emeritus at the National Museum of Japanese History and the Graduate University for Advanced Studies. Focuses on Edo-period historical aspects including popular education, culture and lifestyles, society, ethnography, and gambling. Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1940. Earned his master’s degree in literature from the Tokyo University of Education before going on to take a PhD in literary studies. His works include Nihon minshū kyōikushi kenkyū (A Study of the History of Japanese Popular Education), Kindaishi no naka no kyōiku (Education in Early Modern History), and Edo no kyōikuryoku (Edo’s Educational Capacity).
