After joining Nikkei Business Publications and working as deputy editor of Nikkei Business, launched and became the managing editor of Nikkei Business Associé, a business magazine for younger working people. Later headed the Nikkei Business Bureau and was general managing editor of Nikkei BPnet. Left Nikkei BP in 2014 to become an independent writer/editor. Has a reputation for hard-edged economic analysis and is also a popular TV commentator known for his astute observations on product sales trends. Since April 2006, has been a visiting lecturer at Taisho University.
