    Sasō Mamoru

    Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1961. Professor of Shintō studies at Kokugakuin University. Head of the Kokugakuin University Museum and the university’s Education and Research Facilities. Expert in Japanese archaeology and the history of Japanese religion. Earned a master’s degree from the same university in literature; holds a PhD in religious studies. Works include Nihon kodai no saishi kōkogaku (Japan’s Ancient Rituals and the Formation of the Nation), Shinbutsu to mura keikan no kōkogaku (Shintō, Buddhism and Their Influence on Village Landscapes), and Kami to shisha no kōkogaku (Kami and Burial Mound Rituals).
