Essayist focusing on reading and literature. Born in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, in 1969. Works include Furuhon kurashi (Used Book Living), Hima na dokushojin (The Peaceful Bookworm), Katsuji to jikatsu (The Printed Word and Self-Support), and Hon to namakemono (Books and the Lazy Person). Writes regular columns in the Web Hon no zasshi (Web Book Magazine) and Mainichi Shimbun evening edition.
