    Nakai Hitoshi

    Professor at the University of Shiga Prefecture. Specializes in archaeology with particular research interests in medieval and premodern castles, as well as the graves of daimyō. Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1955. Earned his degree in history from Ryūkoku University. After working as director of the Nagahama Castle Historical Museum and other posts, in 2011 he became an associate professor at the University of Shiga Prefecture. Took his present position in 2013. Works include Jōkan chōsa no tebiki (Guide to Castle Residence Surveys), Karā tettei zukai: Nihon no shiro (Japanese Castles, Fully Illustrated in Color), and Ōmi no shiro: Shiro ga kataru kokoku no sengokushi (Ōmi Castles: The History Castles Tell of the Warring States Period in Shiga Prefecture).
