Editorial writer, Chūgoku Shimbun, and executive director of the newspaper’s Hiroshima Peace Media Center. Graduated from the Hokkaidō University School of Law and joined the Chūgoku Shimbun in 1995. Was a major contributor to the newspaper’s coverage of the sixty-fifth and seventieth anniversaries of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference of 2020, and US President Barack Obama’s historic visit to Hiroshima. Co-author, with Setsuko Thurlow, of Hikari ni mukatte hatte ike—kaku naki sekai o oimotomete (Crawl Toward the Light! In Pursuit of a World Without Nuclear Weapons).
