    Iwashita Hisafumi

    Writer and visiting professor at Kokugakuin University. Born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1961. After graduating from Kokugakuin, began working for the Shinbashi Enbujō theater. After leaving that job, penned his first work, Geisharon: Kamigami ni funsuru koto o wasureta Nihonjin (The Geisha Treatise: Japanese Have Forgotten How to Impersonate the Gods), which won the twentieth Watsuji Tetsurō Prize. Became a member of the Japan Writers’ Association, sponsored by philosopher Umehara Takeshi and writer Hiraiwa Yumie. Appears on television as a commentator. Other works include Meigi no yobanashi (Tales Told by Famous Geisha), Hitamen: Mishima Yukio wakaki hi no koi (Confrontation: The Loves of the Young Mishima Yukio), and Otona no o-sahō (Manners for Adults).
