Hamada Futoshi
Photographer. Born in 1953. Graduated from Tokyo Junior College of Photography (currently Tokyo Polytechnic University) and joined the photo department of the publisher Kōdansha, Ltd. In 1979, returned home to Amami Ōshima to document the nature and culture of the island. Has photographed the Amami rabbit since 1986. In 1996 became the first person to record the animal’s nursing behavior. Awarded a special honor in 2017 in the Nature’s Best Photography Asia awards video category. Major collections include Toki o koete ikiru Amami no kurousagi (The Amami Rabbit: A Creature of Antiquity) and Amami: Hikari to mizu no monogatari (Amami: A Tale of Light and Water).
