Hiroshima Welcomes the G7 Summit

Leaders of the Group of Seven leading democracies are gathering for their May 2023 summit in Hiroshima. As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine drags on, and Russian President Vladimir Putin escalates his nuclear saber-rattling by reaching agreement with Russia’s allies on deployment of tactical nuclear weapons, Japan will seek to lead the G7 in delivering an antinuclear message from a city famed for its atomic-bomb destruction and its rise to a symbol of peaceful reconstruction thereafter.
