A Sociological Look at Japan and Taiwan
Trends in Japanese society toward a more aged population, fewer children, and marriage later in life—or not at all—have only been more accentuated by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Neighboring Taiwan, too, faces many of the same issues. We brought together Yamada Masahiro and Lan Pei-Chia, leading sociologists from Japan and Taiwan, to discuss family, marriage, and labor issues in their respective countries in this three-part dialogue.
