Kashiwa Island
The little island of Kashiwa off Ōtuski Peninsula in southwest Kōchi Prefecture boasts water so clear that it makes boats appear to float in midair. A large coral reef thrives here that supports over 1,000 species of fish. Glass-bottomed boats ply the waters, allowing visitors the chance to see the fish in their native habitat. The area is a popular place for water sports, including surf fishing and scuba diving.
Access: 60 minutes by bus from Sukumo Station on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway.
