Watanabe Masahito
Associate professor at Japan’s Hokkaido University Received his MA in international relations from the University of Chicago and his PhD in political science from Waseda University. His research interests include electoral campaigning in the United States and American politics. Watanabe is the author of 10 books, including Gendai Amerika senkyo no henbō (Evolution of Modern Electoral Campaigning in America), which was awarded the Ōhira Masayoshi Memorial Award, and a biography of President Barack Obama, Hyōden Baraku Obama: “Ekkyō” suru daitōryō (Barack Obama: An American President with Asian-Pacific Roots). Prior to his academic career, he was a political and diplomatic correspondent for a Japanese network covering various prime ministers. He was also a research fellow at Columbia University, George Washington University, and Harvard University.
