Advisor to the Nippon Communications Foundation. Former executive director and director of editorial planning, Nippon.com. Born in Tokyo in 1954. After graduating from Sophia University Faculty of Foreign Studies, joined Jiji Press, where he served as editor of the economic news desk and chief of the Editorial Bureau. Covered Japan-US trade friction at its height as Washington correspondent from 1988 to 1992.
