Takeoka Tōru

Associate professor at Ritsumeikan University. Specializes in sociology, particularly urban sociology building on his fieldwork in the Kabukichō district of Shinjuku, Tokyo. Born in Tokyo in 1984. Studied sociology at the University of Tokyo before going on to earn his master’s and doctorate degrees in sociology from the same school. Was a specially appointed assistant professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University and an assistant professor at the University of Tokyo before taking his present post. His publications include Kabukichō wa naze “bottakuri” ga naku naranai no ka (Why Has Kabukichō Failed to Rid Itself of Rip-Offs?) and Hen’yō suru toshi no yukue: Fukugan no toshiron (Fate of the Changing City: A Compound Take on Urban Theory; coeditor).
