    Professor of international relations at Ritsumeikan University, where he specializes in Southeast and East Asian economic and social development, with a focus on reconstruction and development support in Afghanistan. Born in 1967 in Sapporo. Received an MA in social sciences from Hitotsubashi University and a PhD in global social studies from Dōshisha University. In addition to being an Afghanistan assistance specialist at both the Afghanistan office and the Tokyo head office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, has also served with the World Bank and Kobe University. Began his tenure at Ritsumeikan after serving as associate professor at Teikyō University. Author of books including Gendai Afuganisutan shi (A History of Modern Afghanistan).
