    Sakahara Atsushi

    Writer, film director, university teacher, and head of a sarin victims’ support group. Born in Kyoto in 1966 and lives in the city now. After earning his economics degree from Kyoto University, worked at Dentsū before going to the United States and completing an MBA at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Worked at a venture firm in Silicon Valley. In 2025, earned his PhD in engineering from Utsunomiya University. Bean Cake, a film for which he was associate producer, won the Short Film Palme d’Or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Books include Pīnattsu hito tsubu de subete o kaeru (Changing Everything with a Single Peanut), Puroakutibu gakushū kakumei (Proactive Learning Revolution), and Jisedai e okuru etoki shakai genri josetsu (An Illustrated Introduction to Social Principles for the Next Generation). Directed the film Me and the Cult Leader, which had its theatrical release on March 20, 2021.
