Nagashima Akihisa
Member of the House of Representatives since 2003, securing election for eight consecutive terms. Born in 1962 in Kanagawa Prefecture. Earned his BA and his master’s degree in law from Keiō University; went on to get an MA from SAIS, the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. In his academic career, has also been a visiting scholar at the SAIS Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies, a professional lecturer at Keiō’s Graduate School of Law, and a visiting professor at Chūō University. Was the first Japanese research associate at the Council on Foreign Relations in the United States. His political career includes vice-minister of defense and chairman of the house committee on national security. Since 2019 has been a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, and is currently serving as special advisor to the prime minister for national security, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
