Matsuoka Shinpei

Professor at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Plays an active role in staging of nōgaku as a steering committee member of Hashinokai, a group involved in the research and performance of nō plays. Also researches feudal Japan from an interdisciplinary perspective, with a focus on literature and history. Published works include Utage no shintai: Basara kara Zeami e (The Corporeity of the Feast: From Basara to Zeami) and Nō: Chūsei kara no hibiki (Nō: Feudal Resonances).
