Associate professor, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies; director, TUFS Center for Intercultural Studies. A former elementary school teacher and aid worker, Kojima conducted a pioneering survey to determine the educational status of all foreign children in the city of Kani, Gifu Prefecture, and was subsequently appointed as the Kani Board of Education’s first coordinator for foreign schoolchildren. Author of Gaigokujin no shūgaku to fushūgaku (Foreign Children’s School Attendance and Nonattendance), Q&A de wakaru gaikoku ni tsunagaru kodomo no shūgaku shien (Q&A Guide to School Enrollment Assistance for Children of Foreign Heritage), and other works.
