Senior Professor of economics at Keiō University. President of The Institute of Developing Economies, JETRO. Chief economist at the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). Expertise in international trade theory and developmental economics. Born in Tokyo in 1958. Graduated from the University of Tokyo and earned his PhD in economics from the University of Wisconsin. Previously served as an assistant professor of economics at the State University of New York and professor at Keiō University. Assumed his current position in 2024.
