Head curator, Hyōgo Prefectural History Museum and section chief, Hyōgo Prefectural Museum of Art. A folklorist specializing in yōkai and traditional toys. Born in Kagawa Prefecture in 1969. After doing doctoral work at Osaka University, completed his PhD at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies. Regarded as Japan’s first accredited “Yōkai professor,” his books include the 2013 Edo no yōkai kakumei (The Edo-Period Yōkai Revolution) and the 2022 Zusetsu Nihon yōkaishi (An Illustrated History of Japan’s Yōkai).
