Imamura Fumihiko
Professor of tsunami engineering at Tōhoku University’s IRIDES (International Research Institute of Disaster Science). Obtained his doctorate of engineering from Tōhoku University. After roles as research assistant and then lecturer at the university’s Disaster Control Research Center, directed IRIDES from 2014 until 2023. Specialties include tsunami engineering (the development of technologies to prevent and mitigate tsunami damage) and natural disaster science. Has served on the Reconstruction Agency’s Reconstruction Design Council and an expert panel established by the Central Disaster Management Council of Japan. Currently chairs the Reconstruction Agency’s Reconstruction Promotion Committee and serves as representative director of the 3.11 Denshō Road Promotion Organization and vice president of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
