Writer and sociologist. Researcher at the Criminology Research Center of Ryūkoku University and part-time instructor at Kurume University, specializing in criminal sociology. Born in 1970 in Fukuoka. Received his PhD in social system studies from the University of Kitakyūshū. Has conducted extensive interviews and surveys of yakuza and others connected with organized crime groups in Japan. Author of Yakuza ni naru riyū (Why People Become Yakuza), Yami baito: Kyōakuka suru wakamonono riaru (Dark Part-Time Jobs: The Increasingly Harsh Reality Faced by Youth), and other works.
