    Higuchi Hideaki

    Born in Mie Prefecture in 1952 and studied law at Kyoto University. Became a judge in 1983. Was presiding judge of the Fukui District Court when it ruled to block the planned restart of Reactors 3 and 4 at the Ōi Nuclear Power Station on May 21, 2014, and when it issued a provisional injunction blocking the restart of the Unit 3 and 4 reactors at the Takahama Nuclear Power Station on April 14, 2015. Stepped down on reaching mandatory retirement age in 2017. Publications include Watashi ga genpatsu o tometa riyū (Why I Stopped the Nuclear Power Plants), Nankai torafu kyodai jishin demo genpatsu wa daijōbu to iu hitobito (People Who Insist That Nuclear Power Plants Will Withstand the Nankai Trough Quake), Hoshu no tame no genpatsu nyūmon (Nuclear Power: An Introduction for Conservatives), and Genpatsu to shihō (Judicial Law with Regard to Nuclear Power).
