Hatano Sumio

Director-general, Japan Center for Asian Historical Records, National Archives of Japan. Born in 1947. Received his Ph.D in law from Keiō University. Specializes in the political and diplomatic history of Japan. Was a professor at University of Tsukuba before assuming his current position. Author of The Pacific War and Japan’s Diplomacy in Asia, One Hundred Fifty Years of Japanese Foreign Relations, and other works.
