Tokyo, Dec. 16 (Jiji Press)--Japanese electronics and heavy machinery giant Hitachi Ltd. said Monday that it will promote Executive Vice President Toshiaki Tokunaga to president and CEO on April 1 next year.

President Keiji Kojima will step aside to become vice chairman, while Chairman Toshiaki Higashihara will stay in the post, Hitachi said.

Under Tokunaga, who leads its information technology division, Hitachi will aim for an acceleration of digital transformation and further growth mainly of its infrastructure-related operations, such as railways.

Tokunaga will become a board member after a shareholders' meeting in June 2025.

"I'm eager to accelerate the company's growth as 'One Hitachi,' with a focus on digital technologies," Tokunaga told a press conference.
