On August 2, the city of Aomori commenced its annual Nebuta Matsuri. The festival has become famous around the world for the giant floats in the shape of Japanese medieval warriors and mythical figures that are paraded around the city during the celebration.
Shortly after 7 pm on August 2, a starting gun signaled the beginning of the festival. On the first day, 15 large-scale floats and 10 small-scale floats toured around Aomori’s streets. The whole city was enveloped in the jubilant atmosphere of dancers moving to the sound of taiko drums and flutes. The festival runs through August 7. (©️ Jiji)
