The government recently announced the route for the imperial procession to take place after Emperor Naruhito’s enthronement ceremony on October 22, 2019. The parade will begin at the Imperial Palace and pass by the National Diet Building on the way to the Akasaka Estate. Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will travel in a convertible car, and the entire 4.6-kilometer journey will take around 30 minutes.
Crown Prince Fumihito, Crown Princess Kiko, Prime Minister Abe Shinzō, and Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga Yoshihide will also take part in the procession.
More than 100,000 people gathered to watch the imperial procession of Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emeritus Michiko in 1990.
